About Us

Three decades of practice across audit, taxation, advisory, and cross-border matters.

Over the past three decades, GSV has evolved into a multi-disciplinary practice, supporting clients across audit, taxation, advisory, and cross-border matters, with a consistent focus on delivering meaningful value through technical depth and practical insight.

Our Background

Over the past three decades, GSV has evolved into a multi-disciplinary practice, supporting clients across audit, taxation, advisory, and cross-border matters. The firm’s approach has consistently focused on delivering meaningful value through a combination of technical depth and practical insight, extending beyond traditional compliance services.

Established in 1993 and registered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in the same year, GSV was founded by first-generation professionals. The firm began its journey in a modest manner — building its practice in income tax and internal audits, and gradually building its reputation through on-time service and a thoughtful approach to problem-solving.

Today, GSV Associates LLP comprises five partners and a team of over thirty, supported by a robust network of audit and legal specialists. Based in Kodambakkam, Chennai, the firm serves clients across a wide range of industries and geographies, with a structured, corporate approach to its services, processes, and governance. The firm is peer reviewed by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, reflecting its commitment to maintaining quality and consistency in professional engagements.

A defining aspect of GSV is its blend of experience and evolving capability. Senior professionals bring depth in technical knowledge and practical insight through extensive hands-on experience, complemented by a younger team contributing to technology-driven audit, analytics, and process optimisation. This combination enables a balanced approach to engagements and continues to shape how the firm delivers its services in line with evolving client expectations.

Our Evolution

GSV has approached its journey with a strong openness to change, recognising that both regulatory and business environments continue to evolve. This perspective has enabled the firm to explore emerging areas, adapt to new frameworks, and guide clients through change with clarity, confidence, and preparedness.

- Our Expansion into Global Trade & International Taxation Areas
With the liberalisation of trade in India during the 1990s, GSV expanded into specialised areas under the WTO framework, including anti-dumping, countervailing, and safeguard measures. This was complemented by a growing focus on international taxation, particularly in addressing issues arising from double taxation of income.

Through sustained engagement, participation in international forums, and continued investment in technical capabilities, the firm developed a practical understanding of cross-border tax matters—integrating accounting, costing, and legal perspectives to provide workable solutions and support clients in cross-border trade and investment activities.

- Responding to Global Tax Developments
The financial crisis of 2008 brought to the forefront the issue of Base Erosion and Profit Shifting (BEPS) and the introduction of Multilateral Instruments (MLI) to modify existing Double Taxation Avoidance Agreements. These changes required a shift in approach and a deeper understanding of evolving international tax principles.

GSV has since built the capability to provide practical and context-driven advice on cross-border transactions, particularly in relation to tax structuring and regulatory implications.

- Strengthening Advisory & Consulting Practice
Over time, the firm expanded its presence across consulting, taxation, and audit services. Since the early 2000s, GSV has recognised business requirements beyond traditional practices and has been engaged in providing management advisory assignments across sectors such as Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC), Manufacturing, and large-scale infrastructure projects associated with government initiatives.

This experience has contributed to a well-rounded understanding of corporate, tax, and foreign exchange regulations, enabling the firm to address complex and evolving business requirements.

- Adapting to Indirect Tax Reforms: Introduction of GST
The introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in 2017 marked a significant shift in India’s indirect tax framework. GSV developed early capabilities in this area and established a dedicated GST practice to support clients in transitioning to and complying with the new framework.

The firm continues to assist businesses across sectors in managing GST compliance, advisory, and audit requirements, with a focus on practical implementation and alignment with regulatory expectations.

- Integrating Technology and Analytics in Finance and Audit
With the increasing volume and complexity of business data, GSV has supported clients in adopting ERP systems and financial platforms such as Zoho Books, along with implementing process automation through the use of technology.

The firm also leverages data analytics to derive structured insights from growing data sets, enabling clients to enhance reporting, improve operational visibility, and support more informed decision-making.

Our Approach

Our approach to engagements is grounded in understanding each client’s specific requirements, business environment, and regulatory context. We aim to deliver practical, well-rounded solutions that combine technical depth with a clear understanding of business realities.

We view our role as constructive rather than fault-finding. Rather than limiting ourselves to identifying issues, we work alongside management to understand the underlying causes, suggest practical improvements, and contribute to informed decision-making. Wherever possible, we seek to anticipate matters rather than react to them after the fact.

Each engagement is supported by a competent team and guided by experienced professionals, ensuring independence, sound judgement, and confidentiality. Our work is governed by established professional standards and supported by internal review processes to maintain consistency, integrity, and quality. As part of this approach, every audit engagement undergoes an internal peer review prior to sign-off, providing an additional layer of objectivity.

We follow a structured and collaborative approach—working closely with management to assess risks, understand operational dynamics, and provide inputs that support informed decision-making.

With increasing reliance on technology in business operations, we also integrate technology-driven approaches, including data analytics, system-based reviews, and process optimisation, to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of our work.

Our International Practice & Cross-Border Perspective

GSV’s early engagement with the WTO framework and its agreements enabled the firm to develop capabilities in international practice. Building on this foundation, the firm has provided advisory services to businesses with operations and interests beyond India, particularly in cross-border trade, taxation, and regulatory matters.

Since the early 2000s, our international engagements have spanned multiple jurisdictions, including trade remedy proceedings before authorities in the European Union, South Africa, Korea, Brazil, and India; cross-border due diligence assignments in Oman, Qatar, and Indonesia; and corporate advisory and disinvestment transactions in Thailand and China.

10. Due Diligence for takeover of mines in Indonesia by an Indian company – Fieldwork in Indonesia

Our experience in cross-border transactions and international regulatory frameworks enables us to approach engagements with a broader perspective. We consider the interplay between taxation, foreign exchange regulations, and business structuring while advising on matters involving overseas investments, trade, and international operations.

This perspective allows us to support clients in navigating multi-jurisdictional requirements with clarity, while aligning regulatory compliance with business objectives.

Our Future Direction

While the firm's foundation has been built over three decades, our outlook remains forward-looking and adaptive. As businesses continue to operate in an environment shaped by regulatory reform, technology adoption, and increasing cross-border activity, we see a growing need for advisors who can bring together technical depth, practical judgement, and a multi-disciplinary perspective.

In the years ahead, GSV intends to grow in a structured manner — strengthening its existing practice areas, deepening its capabilities in technology-enabled audit and advisory, and progressively building specialised divisions, including an in-house legal division, to serve clients on more complex and integrated mandates.

Our objective is to continue evolving as a multi-disciplinary firm that supports clients meaningfully, with the same emphasis on quality, independence, and long-term relationships that has guided the firm since its inception.
